A W H i l e stands for . . .
Achievable Workforce Housing = multifamily, ADUs, townhomes, single family, etc.
infrastructure = public art, beautification, alternate means of transportation, and public serving buildings
lifestyle = conferences, speaker series, outreach, cultural and entertainment events
experiences = the culmination of all of the above
WHAT ARE AWHile GROUP’S GOALS?
1. By 2030 our goal is to be in motion on and/or have built at least 300 Achievable Workforce Housing units. This aims to chip away at the ~8,200* workforce housing units that are needed in the North Tahoe area alone.
With more than 80% of the residential property in the region being composed of vacation rentals and second homes the need for achievable workforce housing has been identified as a crucial component in several economic and community studies and surveys.
2. We aim to enhance the vibrancy of the North Tahoe region.
Supporting better infrastructure and creating more opportunities to enrich the lifestyle of a larger population of full time residents, existing part time residents and transient visitors will enhance the vibrancy of everyone’s experiences in the region.
* A July 2023 Housing Needs Assessment Update (HNA Update) by the Mountain Housing Council highlights a critical shortage of 8,200 housing units in the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District (TTUSD) area. This deficit affects various households, including those that are overburdened by housing costs (spending over 30% of their monthly income on housing), overcrowded (more than one person per room), or underhoused (lacking adequate plumbing or kitchen facilities).
HOW WILL AWHile GROUP ACCOMPLISH THEIR GOALS?
1. AWHile Group has partnered with Land to Living, Inc. a local design-build firm that also offers real estate and planning services.
2. AWHile Group is engaged in both community and agency meetings to help pave the way towards more achievable workforce housing in the region.
3. AWHile Group is working with community minded investors to fund these projects.
